Parents may want to send their children to Korea to study English more, but doing so may mean missing the right time. The younger the child is, the better.

Contrary to what adults think, children acquire language much faster than we can imagine.

We are accepting applications from students in the 5th grade of elementary school and above, considering the appropriate age for students to be able to take care of themselves, such as bathing and changing clothes, without parental help. However, if students in the 5th grade of elementary school or below or college students or above wish to participate, please contact us separately and we will provide guidance through consultation.

English is a language and a habit. Of course, there are not many places where English academies and education are as active and well-developed as Korea. However, unlike situations where all environments except for educational time outside of the academy are conducted in Korean, in a homestay, all surrounding environments are based on the use of English. In particular, the homeschool homestay program provides an environment where only English is used 24 hours a day, helping to naturally make English a habit as a language.

Even if you simply calculate it in terms of time, if you live with a native speaker for 15 hours a day for 12 weeks, excluding sleeping time, it will total 1,350 hours. This is much more than the total of 260 hours (5 days a week, 1 hour each x 52 weeks) of studying conversation with a native speaker for 1 hour a day for a year.

Considering these environmental and time conditions, your English skills will naturally improve. Above all, it provides an experience where you can now converse in English naturally as if you were conversing with a Korean, free from the awkwardness and fear of foreigners that made you speechless.

In addition, compared to a one-year study abroad program, the homeschool homestay program can make up for many of the disadvantages. In a group life at school, there may be a lack of detailed care for each student, an environment is created where students are forced to mingle with a group of Koreans, and even in a homestay, each student often lives in their own room.

In contrast, our program actively cares for students with homestay host families and CHH Education staff, and provides an environment where only one student is assigned to each family, so that students can speak only English. In addition, through homeschooling, all activities are done together, and the use of cell phones and electronic devices is restricted, so that students can actively form interpersonal relationships rather than personal time.

There is absolutely no problem with participating in the program with a sibling or friend. However, our program operates on a “one family, one student” basis.

If two or more students are assigned to one family, they will communicate with each other in Korean more often and will depend on each other, which may reduce their efforts to adapt to the homestay environment. This may not only slow down the improvement of English skills, but also lead to negative results such as taking more time to adapt to the new environment.

However, it is recommended that you participate in the program together. You can be a strong companion for each other when entering and leaving the country, and you can share your experiences and encourage each other by having opportunities to interact during the program. Also, just having a sibling or friend with you is a great comfort and support, rather than being alone in an unfamiliar environment.

It depends on the student doing the homestay. If you are a student who is very fluent in English communication, then a period of about a month can be enough experience in many ways. However, if the purpose of the homestay is for the student to learn English, then a period of at least two to three months is recommended.

A period of one month is recommended for at least two months, with the most appropriate period being three months, as it takes about a week to adjust to the time difference and you will have to leave after becoming close to Canadian children. Unless you are fluent in English and are coming for the experience, I recommend a period of at least three months.

However, I do not recommend leaving your parents for too long, such as six months or a year, because it is not good for either the child or the parents. Koreans tend to be overly obsessed with English, and although it may be convenient to be good at English, it cannot be the purpose of life.

Through the homestay program, you will be able to overcome your fear of English, gain some confidence in English, and have a pleasant memory through the experience of other cultures. Also, even if you achieve some results through the homeschool homestay program, the results will depend on what you do when you return to Korea.

Canada allows visa-free entry for up to 6 months. For long-term study abroad, local school admission documents and a student visa are required, but the Canadian Homeschool Homestay Program is a 12-week program, so a separate visa is not required.

However, an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) is required to enter Canada without a visa.

The application process is not difficult, but we can also help you with purchasing airline tickets in bulk and applying for an eTA in bulk.

All families that CHH connects are Christian homeschool families or families that were homeschooled and are currently sending their children to private schools. Since they all receive faith-centered education rather than public education, the children’s basic character and behavior are better than those of other children. Most families have 4 or 5 children, so they can interact with children of various ages. Also, whenever we recruit a family, we check the family’s homeschool curriculum, Christian faith, etc. before selecting them.

Private tutoring time is 1 hour. You will have 1 hour of private tutoring time per day (5 days a week) with your child 1:1.

During the private tutoring time, we have ESL time to help your child speak and listen better in English according to his/her current English ability.

The participation fee includes homestay + personal tutor + activity fees.

For example, if all the children of the homestay family are taking swimming lessons, the student will also take swimming lessons, and admission fees and participation fees for museums, amusement parks, etc. are all included. (For expensive activities, please consult with the student's parents first.)

So, except for buying souvenirs or gifts, there are only snacks and personal hygiene expenses. Moreover, most residences are quite far from convenience stores or marts, so there are not many opportunities to spend pocket money. I think an allowance of less than $300 is sufficient. If the student requests additional pocket money, please contact us and we will help you provide it.

Parents should decide whether or not to participate.

All of the families connected are Christian homeschool families, so each family has a slightly different way of worshiping, but they hold family worship services and attend church services on Sundays. They pray during meals and their entire lives are centered on faith.

Even if you don't have faith, we all have to participate in living together.

Since all families connected to us are faithful Christian families, we respectfully decline to accept non-Christian participants who are not willing to participate in a faith-centered life. Non-Christians who are willing to participate with a positive mind are welcome to do so.

And I encourage students and parents who participate in this opportunity to take an interest and learn more about Christianity.

Gifts, souvenirs, etc. usually add more luggage when you return home. Please take this into consideration and make sure to leave enough space in your bag to avoid additional costs.

Daily routines vary from household to household.

Aside from the one-hour private tutoring session per day, other schedules will proceed as each family's normal schedule.

Each family's regular program may not change significantly because of the child entrusted to them, but local families may make some changes to their schedule, such as visiting special places to accommodate Korean students.

Addressing is one of the most important etiquettes.

Some people tell you to just call them by their names, but if you have properly educated your children in manners, they will not call you that way by other parents or teachers.

The title for your homestay parents is Mr. Family name (Last name) Mrs. Family name.

For example, if the names of the host family's father and mother are James Brown and Hanah Brown,

They are called Mr. Brown and Mrs. Brown.

Teachers and other parents are also addressed this way.

Of course, we call children in homestay families by their first name.

And to the church pastor, Pastor. Vanderveen (Last name of local church pastor)

Doctors are called Dr. ...

In the case of younger people, such as swimming instructors or older siblings, we also call them by their names.
