After having such a special experience...
At first, I felt awkward with my homestay family and couldn't talk much, leading to many silent moments. However, after about two weeks, we gradually became closer.
Every night before bed, I played board games with Kovan, the eldest son, who was the same age as me, and we had a great time together. I also got along well with the younger siblings, playing around and having simple conversations with them.
One of the best parts of my homestay experience was getting to do various activities with my host family. I had so much fun trying different sports like rock climbing, bowling, skiing, badminton, sledding, and skating. But more than that, I loved being part of their family gatherings, such as birthday parties and Christmas celebrations. It truly made me feel like a part of their family.
At first, speaking English was difficult, but over time, I got used to it and became more comfortable having conversations with them. Thanks to this, my English improved, and I also learned a lot about a new culture.
On my last day, saying goodbye to my homestay family was really sad. We exchanged contact information, and even now, we keep in touch through messages and occasional video calls, sharing fun stories and staying connected.
I’m very grateful to Kovan’s mom for her kindness and to my coordinators for their support, which helped me complete my three-month stay in Canada smoothly.
This special experience allowed me to meet new friends and a second family while learning so much along the way. I’m really glad I went, and if I get the chance, I’d love to visit again and see everyone in person.
