Regaining confidence in speaking English!
While my husband and I were discussing language studies for my daughter, Juhye, lacked confidence in speaking English, we came across an advertisement for a Canadian homestay, and that’s when we decided to apply.
She was placed in Erica's family, which had many children (1, 3, 8, 10, and 12 years old), so it was lively. However, she had plenty of opportunities to interact with the kids, and by constantly using English, it seems that her confidence grew.
Participating in various activities like rock climbing with the family, ice skating, attending a traditional Canadian party, joining the church Christmas choir, and celebrating the New Year, Juhye was able to experience Canadian culture. Through these experiences, she seems to have lost her hesitation towards English, for which we are grateful. Meeting new friends through the co-op gatherings of devout homeschool families and naturally building fellowship in faith was also a significant benefit.
It was great to have the opportunity to study English for one hour every day with Erica, while also learning about faith and various aspects of life. It helped naturally train Juhye to think and speak in English.
There was a situation where Juhye had to go to the dentist because her braces fell off, but the coordinator, who is based locally, quickly found a dentist and handled the situation well. I was really grateful for that. I felt reassured knowing there was a coordinator taking care of the children locally.
Through the homestay, my daughter met many people and grew a lot through various activities. The memories and lessons she gained in Canada will be a great strength for her in the future. My son says that when he grows up, he also wants to participate in the Canada Homeschool Homestay Program. =)
I would like to express my gratitude to God who guided every situation, to Erica's family who took care of Juhye like their own for three months, and to the coordinators and director who created this homestay program.
